MIRI, Oct 4: Digital technology should be used as a medium to record, preserve and introduce Chinese cultural heritage to a wider audience.

Sarawak Transport Minister, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said that cultural preservation should not be seen as an attempt to repeat past practices, but rather it should evolve as technology and lifestyle changes.

According to him, traditional music, art, calligraphy and heritage can be leveraged through digital technology to remain relevant and accessible for future generations.

"Culture reminds us of our roots, education prepares people for the future, a strong economy creates opportunities, while unity empowers communities", he said at Miri Chinese Heritage, Tradition and Culture Festival 2026 in Miri last night.

Meanwhile, young entrepreneurs and professionals are encouraged to explore new sectors by combining traditional strengths with innovation, technology and new ideas.

"Technological developments, globalisation and lifestyle changes should not disconnect society from its cultural roots, but instead be an opportunity to expand the delivery and preservation of heritage", he said.

He added that the Chinese community must also continue to contribute in education, youth development, social welfare, entrepreneurship and economic development in line with current environmental changes. - TVS
