KUCHING, Dec 3: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiates the ‘Kempen Lebihkan Makan Buah-Buahan Tempatan’ (Eat More Local Fruits Campaign) at the foyer of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Complex today.

The campaign showcases 16 varieties of locally grown fruits sourced from Serian, Bintulu, Kapit, Samarahan, Sarikei, Miri, Betong, Kuching and Limbang.

According to the press kit, the fruits featured include guava, durian, banana, pineapple, nangchem, crystal longan, coconut, orange, pomelo, langsat, dabai, salak, golden melon and tahai.

The initiative aims to promote local fruit varieties and raise awareness of their nutritional value, with the support and endorsement of Sarawak’s leadership.

Among the local fruits highlighted during the campaign.

In conjunction with the campaign, Abang Johari also launched the latest edition of the Sarawak Agriculture Department’s Agro Kenyalang Informasi Tani Sarawak magazine.

Now in its 19th edition, the magazine serves as a key platform for the Department to disseminate information, share success stories and offer inspiration to agricultural communities across the State.

Agro Kenyalang highlights a range of departmental initiatives aimed at strengthening Sarawak’s agricultural ecosystem, including the development of food production clusters and the adoption of smart technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and automation.

The publication also acts as a channel for knowledge-sharing, featuring experiences, innovations and achievements of local agricultural entrepreneurs as part of ongoing efforts to accelerate sectoral development.

This latest edition spotlights successful agricultural projects implemented in Limbang, Miri, Bintulu and Mukah, while also documenting the Department’s engagement with external agencies and the public.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak (M-FICORD) and the Sarawak Agriculture Department, in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS), Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA), Sarawak Land Development Board (SLDB), Sarawak Rubber Industry Board (SARIB), Sago and Nipah Development Board (SNDB), State Farmers’ Organisation Sarawak (SFO) and the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board.

Also present were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, M-FICORD Minister Dato Sri Stephen Rundi Utom, as well as other dignitaries. — DayakDaily
