MIRI, 7 October: Miri Municipal Council (MBM) welcomes private sector initiatives in providing recreational facilities that contribute to more active, livable and community-oriented urban development.
Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said that public-private partnership is important in creating a space that gives value to society, as well as promoting active lifestyles.
"From the MBM perspective, we welcome initiatives that contribute to a more livable, active and people-oriented city.
"The public and private sectors each have a role to play, but when we work together, we can create spaces that give real value to the community", he said speaking at the Pickle Pad Opening Ceremony and pickleball friendly matches here today.
Added Adam, the increasingly popular sport of pickleball is an easy-to-learn recreational activity that can be enjoyed by communities of all ages and abilities.
"Facilities like the Pickle Pad not only provide space for communities to remain active, but also serve as a platform to encourage interaction and strengthen relationships within the community", he said.
At the ceremony, Interhill Group introduced four pickleball pitches developed in the Miri Waterfront Commercial Centre parking lot, with an hourly rental rate of RM15 for local community facilities. - TVS
