Prominent Sarawakians conferred state honours

KUCHING: Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Azizah Nawawi and Dewan Negara President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah were among four recipients conferred the state’s highest honour, the Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak (PNBS), carrying the title Dato Sri, today (Oct 10).

The other two PNBS recipients were Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Pro Chancellor Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz and ABM Fujiya Berhad’s Chairman Datuk Tay Ah Ching @ Tay Chin Kin.

The honours were conferred in conjunction with the 80th official birthday of Sarawak Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Four recipients received the Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang (PGBK), which carries the title Datuk.

They were Court of Appeal Judge Dean Wayne Daly, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak and Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Sarawak Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker and Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang, and Senior Private Secretary to the Sarawak Governor, Datuk Seri Syed Hamzah Syed Paie.

Six recipients were conferred the Darjah Jasa Bakti Sarawak (DJBS), which carries the title Datu.

They were Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts’ Permanent Secretary Morshidi Fredrick, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development’s Permanent Secretary Dzulkornain Masron, Sarawak Agriculture Department Director Dominic Chunggat, Sarawak Climate and Energy Diplomacy Unit Director Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin, Sarawak Research and Development Council’s General Manager Dr Peter Morin Michael Paong and Sarawak Islamic Religious Department Director, Ustaz Mual Suaud.

Meanwhile, 22 recipients received the Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak (PSBS), which carries the title Dato.

Among them were Senator Rita Sarimah Patrick Insol, Senator Susan Chemerai Anding, Krian assemblyman Friday Belik, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, Sarawak Health Department Director Dr Veronica Lugah and Royal Malaysia Police Management Department Director Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah.

In total, 1,350 recipients were conferred state honours, titles and awards in conjunction with the 80th birthday of Tun Wan Junaidi.
