KUCHING, Oct 5: Members of the public are invited to pay their final respects to the late Datuk Song Swee Guan, the first Mayor of Kuching South, at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) headquarters on Wednesday (Oct 7).
In a press release, MBKS said the vehicle carrying Song’s remains will pass through the council headquarters at 11.15am as part of the funeral procession.
The public will have an opportunity to join MBKS councillors and staff in paying their respects and bidding a final farewell to Song.
MBKS said Song had served Kuching and Sarawak with dedication throughout his years in public service.
“His contributions to the city, the council, and the community will always be remembered,” it said.
In addition to being a mayor, Song was also a State assemblyman, a Member of Parliament, and Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly.
According to the funeral notice issued by his family, Song will be accorded his funeral rites at the Chan Funeral Services Parlour, 5th Mile, Jalan Penrissen, Kuching.
The funeral cortege will leave the funeral home at 11am on Oct 7 for the Jhapeti Crematorium, Kuching Buddhist Village, Jalan Tanjung Durian/Kopit, Batu Kitang, Kuching, where his remains will be cremated.
Song died at 3.30pm yesterday (Oct 4) at Sarawak General Hospital. He was 84. — DayakDaily
