BINTULU (Oct 13): Some 100 pupils from 10 primary schools in the Hulu Rajang parliamentary constituency recently took part in the ‘Junior Award Scheme for Schools’ (JASS), run under the Sarawak Madani Youth Sustainability Development Programme.
According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), JASS is an international award scheme from the United Kingdom that is designed to support the pupils through the transition from primary to secondary education.
“It also helps schools deliver the learning objectives of the national curriculum and co-curricular activities, as well as to provide a platform for these children to join international programmes and gain global recognition.”
The young participants who had completed the programme were awarded with the Bronze Level JASS International Award, where they would also be eligible for the national level co-curricular points (PAJSK) by the Malaysia Ministry of Education.
The presentation ceremony took place at SK Lepong Balleh in Kapit last Saturday, where Teguh Niaga Engineering and Services Sdn Bhd chairman Tang Kuak Tinng officiated at the event.
The programme, the first of its kind in Sarawak, is a joint initiative between the International Youth Centre (IYC) and JASS Malaysia.
It is supported by the Ministry of Education, Kapit District Education Office, and the Hulu Rajang Parliamentary Service Centre, and is fully sponsored by Teguh Niaga Engineering and Services Sdn Bhd.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were Ravichandran Balasubramaniam, a representative of Hulu Rajang MP cum Digital Malaysia deputy minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong; IYC deputy director S Pathma Seelan; and JASS Malaysia chief executive officer Shella Nair.
