Quick-thinking staff rescue tourist couple trapped by rising tide in Santubong

KUCHING (Dec 12): A tourist couple had a harrowing experience this afternoon when they became trapped on a beach near the Damai Golf and Country Club in Santubong, as high tide surged around them.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) dispatched a team from the Petra Jaya fire station following a distress call received at 1.53pm.

“The Italian husband and his Thai wife were trapped due to high tide. They were rescued by staff from the Damai Golf and Country Club before Bomba personnel arrived,” the department said in a statement.

The Bomba team only conducted size-up work at the area and obtained information on the incident, before concluding the operation at 2.53pm.
