BINTULU (April 3): Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang has called for the restoration of the original road width at Taman Clean following concerns raised by residents over safety and accessibility.

Residents claimed that the main access road, which was previously seven metres wide, had been reduced to five metres after recent drainage upgrading works, raising issues over traffic flow and safety.

Pang visited the area on Wednesday to engage with residents, as well as representatives from the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and contractors, to assess the situation on the ground.

“I immediately arranged an on-site discussion involving all parties and clearly requested that the original condition be restored once the works are completed, to ensure residents’ safety and ease of access are not compromised,” he said following the visit.

He stressed that development should not focus on project completion, but must also consider whether they genuinely improve the daily lives of the people.

“While rules and regulations are important, their implementation must be practical and people-oriented, taking into account the real needs on the ground,” he added.

Pang reiterated his commitment to raising grassroots concerns with the relevant authorities and advocating for more effective, community-focused policies and implementation approaches.
