BELURU, Sept 15: SK Beluru Central has received a RM20 million upgrade, giving rural pupils a more comfortable and conducive learning environment with new administrative and academic blocks, boys’ and girls’ hostels, and a dining hall.

Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the project was part of the initiative to redevelop dilapidated schools in Sarawak under the RM1 billion allocation.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), he said the redevelopment reflected the commitment of the federal and Sarawak governments to ensuring rural pupils had access to educational facilities on par with those in urban schools.

“However, physical facilities need to be supported by a quality education system, skilled teachers and a learning environment capable of producing a knowledgeable and competitive generation that is ready to face future challenges,” he said when officiating the Proposed Redevelopment Project for Dilapidated Schools in Sarawak under the RM1 Billion Allocation for SK Beluru Central yesterday (Sept 14).

The project, implemented from June 2020 to May 2024, was one of seven dilapidated school redevelopment projects under the initiative, alongside SJK(C) Hua Kong, SK Sungai Buri, SK Sungai Bakas, SK Lapok, SK Sungai Jaong and SMK Marudi.

Also present were Baram Member of Parliament Dato Anyi Ngau; Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government and Marudi assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil; MEITD Deputy Permanent Secretary Caroline Cleophas Joseph; and SK Beluru Central headmaster Andrew Entili. — DayakDaily
