SELANGAU, June 26: A RM3.9 million, 450-metre new access road linking the Pan Borneo Highway directly to Selangau town is set to improve connectivity for residents and road users while stimulating local economic activity.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the project is not only part of the broader Pan Borneo Highway network, but also provides a shorter and more convenient route for entering and exiting Selangau town.

“This road was built following requests from the local community. Although it is only 450 metres long, it is very important as it makes it easier for people to enter Selangau town.

“According to the District Office, this route has now become the preferred option due to improved accessibility. We need to continue transforming the connectivity system in this area,” he said in a TVS news.

He highlighted this during a site visit and briefing on the New Access Road Construction Project from the Pan Borneo Highway to Selangau town here today.

Uggah, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, said improved access is expected to attract greater investment and open up new business opportunities in the area.

He added that there are plans to develop supporting amenities such as a market and food court, in anticipation of increased visitor traffic once the road is completed.

The project will also include additional parking facilities required by the Selangau District Office.

Uggah also expressed appreciation to the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak for successfully completing the project despite early-stage challenges.

“There were a few issues at the beginning, but we managed to resolve them,” he said.

The project is expected to bring significant benefits to the local community by easing daily travel, improving access to administrative centres, public facilities and business premises, while also supporting broader socio-economic growth in Selangau. — DayakDaily
