Earlier, he also received a project briefing from the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) director, Datu Dr Cassidy Morris.

The 9.5-kilometre road connects Kampung Suri to Kampung Manggut and Kampung Tuie in Debak, which is expected to benefit about 3,000 residents in the surrounding areas.

The RM35 million project was completed in April 2023, which included the construction of a paved road as well as two bridges across Sungai Jerai and Sungai Lubok Selubang.

With this, the local community can now benefit from shorter travel time, improved rural connectivity, and new economic opportunities.

Additionally, the road will also serve as the main access route to the Lubok Tamang Agropark, which could transform Saribas’ economic landscape through modern agricultural development.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari was also briefed on the Lubok Tamang Agropark Development Project by the general manager of the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), Datu Sr Zaidi Mahdi.

The integrated 763-hectare project includes agricultural development, a tourism centre, a processing and collection hub for produce, as well as a future development zone, with pandan coconut identified as the main crop.

Expected to yield up to 10 million coconuts each year, the agropark is set to strengthen export prospects and lower reliance on imported supply.

Additionally, the project will strengthen the local agropreneur ecosystem by creating job opportunities, providing training, and encouraging active participation in modern agricultural practices.

Under the Projek Rakyat initiative, the project is expected to begin in June 2026, with planting to take place in stages over 20 months.

Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; Sarawak Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development and Layar assemblyman Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu; Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development and Saribas assemblyman Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam; and Betong MP Dato Dr Richard Rapu. — DayakDaily
