KUCHING, June 26: A total of RM365,500 has been approved for upgrading and repair works involving four community halls in Batu Kawa, as Deputy Premier and Batu Kawa assemblyman Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian continues to prioritise the enhancement of community facilities that serve as key platforms for unity, social engagement and local activities.
According to a press statement issued by the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), the community halls across the constituency have long served as vital gathering spaces for residents, playing an important role in fostering interaction, cooperation and social cohesion among the diverse local communities.
However, several of these facilities have deteriorated over the years due to prolonged use, with issues such as structural wear and corrosion affecting their condition and usability.
In response, local communities have channelled applications for repair and upgrading works through the GPS N14 Batu Kawa Service Centre, reflecting strong grassroots demand for improved and safer public amenities.
Recognising the importance of these facilities, Dr Sim has strongly supported the repair and upgrading of existing halls to ensure residents continue to have access to safe, comfortable and well-maintained venues for meetings, celebrations and community programmes.
The approved allocation of RM365,500 covers upgrading and repair works for four community halls, namely Balai Raya Desa Wira Lot Lorong 20 (Phase 2), Kampung Sinar Budi Baru multipurpose hall (Phase 2), Kampung Sinar Budi Lama hall, and Balai Raya Stapok Resettlement Scheme (Phase 2).
The repair works for Balai Raya Stapok Resettlement Scheme commenced on June 15, 2026, and are scheduled for completion by Sept 14, 2026, while works on the remaining three halls are expected to be completed by Oct 14, 2026.
The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) recently carried out the contract handover to the appointed contractors, marking the official start of implementation for the projects.
Previously, Dr Sim had also allocated funds for upgrading works at the Batu Kawa Chinese Association and Stapok Community Hall, further expanding access to improved community infrastructure in the constituency.
He reiterated that community facilities are essential public assets that strengthen social cohesion and enhance residents’ quality of life, adding that efforts to upgrade and maintain such infrastructure will continue across Batu Kawa as part of his ongoing development agenda. — DayakDaily
