SELANGAU, June 26: The RM81 million construction of SMK Selangau has achieved 64.72 per cent physical progress, placing the project ahead of schedule and raising the possibility of completion as early as the end of this year.
In a TVS news, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the federal-funded project has progressed smoothly despite challenges such as weather conditions and the remote location of the site.
“Currently, the project has reached 64.72 per cent progress, which is 1.2 per cent ahead of schedule.
“We are very satisfied with the contractor’s performance. This is the type of contractor appreciated by the Public Works Department (JKR) for delivering work on schedule despite challenges such as weather and distance,” he said this after a working visit to the construction site of the new school today.
Uggah, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, noted that under the original schedule, the project was expected to be completed in June 2027.
However, the contractor has indicated that it may be completed earlier, potentially by the end of this year.
He also commended the contractor’s efficiency, commitment, and strong project management in ensuring steady progress.
“They have clearly demonstrated their capability and commitment to completing the project within the stipulated timeframe,” he said.
Designed to accommodate about 400 students, SMK Selangau will feature comprehensive facilities, including male and female dormitories, a dining hall, 18 classrooms, and 20 units of teacher housing.
The project also includes a guard house, covered walkways, student waiting areas, waste and pump houses, a main entrance gate, signage, playground, perimeter fencing, sports courts, built-in and laboratory furniture, as well as landscaping works.
Uggah described the project as a key development that will bring significant benefits to residents in the Selangau parliamentary constituency. — DayakDaily
