RTM’s expertise sought for effective 2027 SEA Games’ coverage

KUCHING: Sarawak hopes Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) can share its extensive expertise and experience in media management to support preparations for coverage of the 2027 SEA Games, which will be held next year.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, said RTM’s experience in managing coverage of various large-scale sporting events could be utilised to ensure the media and broadcasting aspects of the 2027 SEA Games are carried out more effectively.

He said the sharing of expertise should not only cover technical aspects but also overall management, including media movement and broadcasting.

“I am confident that RTM is able to share this experience, and I hope that as we move towards the SEA Games next September, the event can be covered and broadcast more effectively,” he told a press conference after paying a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Satria Pertiwi Complex today.

Abdullah added that the telecommunications system also needed to be improved to support broadcasting and coverage requirements throughout the Games.

Meanwhile, RTM’s Director-General, Datuk Ashwad Ismail, said RTM would provide full cooperation in terms of expertise and sharing its experience in broadcasting technology and the management of sporting events.

He said the 2026 World Cup had provided many lessons that could be adopted and further improved, particularly in the organisation and coverage of sporting events.
