The contraband liquor and cigarettes and lorry seized for further investigation.

KUCHING, Jan 19: Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 seized various brands of contraband liquor and cigarettes worth over RM2 million on Tuesday (Jan 16).

Its commander, ACP Ab Rahman Mat Hasan, said the seizure was made during ‘Op Taring Kontraban’ after stopping a lorry at Jalan Serian Bypass at around 2.45am that day.

He said further inspection found various types of liquor and cigarettes in the lorry.

“Investigation found that the lorry driver, a 29-year-old local man, failed to produce any documentation from the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) regarding ownership of the goods.

“The team then proceeded to confiscate the liquor and cigarettes, including the lorry, which is estimated to total RM2,317,509,” he said in a statement.

He added that the lorry driver was also detained for further investigation under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967. — DayakDaily
