KOTA KINABALU: Police seized two home-made rifles after arresting a 60-year-old man in Sabah’s east coast Tawau district.

A team from the Sabah Criminal Investigation Department (CID) special investigation (D9) unit searched the man’s home at Kampung Kuala Merotai following a tip-off at 12.05pm on Thursday (Jan 11).

Sabah CID chief Senior Asst Comm Azmi Abd Rahim said they also seized three bullets in the operation.

"The suspect also claimed to have acquired the firearms from a man from Lawas (district in Sarawak) but could not remember the name and face," he said, when contacted on Friday (Jan 12).

He said further investigations were being carried out under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960.

"This included tracking down the individual who sold the firearms to the suspect," said SAC Azmi.
