KUCHING (Aug 20): Sabah advanced into the women’s football final after thrashing the Federal Territories 6-0 at the Sarawak Stadium today.
They led 5-0 in the first half before adding another goal in the second period to complete the victory in style.
Head coach Petronella Douny said the players had a slow start but after netting the first goal, the players did not look back.
“I’m happy with the victory. The performance could have been better, but it was raining and it was not easy to play on a heavy pitch.
“They looked tired later in the second half and it was good I was able to use all five substitutes to protect our players from injuries,” she said when met after the game.
In the final, Sabah will face either Selangor or Pahang, who face off in the second semifinal later tonight.
“We are ready for either of the teams. They have some good players who play in the National Women’s Football League, but whatever it is, we will go into the match giving our best on the field. Hopefully, we will return home with the Sukma gold medal,” she said.
