KUCHING (July 9): The Sarawak English Language Education Symposium (SELES) aims to create an inclusive English education system that prepares teachers to thrive in a changing world, said Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
The Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister said SELES provides a platform for discussing international and local innovations, trends, and challenges in the field of education in the English language.
“The symposium explores new and existing creative language learning and teaching strategies through research for sustainable human capital development in Sarawak,” he said during his opening address at SELES 2024 at Raia Hotel and Convention Centre here today.
Supported by National Geographic Learning, the symposium gathered an estimated 300 English, Mathematics, and Science teachers throughout Sarawak to network with shareholders and researchers on their perspectives concerning English language education in the state.
Moreover, Sagah emphasised the importance of English teachers working collaboratively with their Science and Mathematics counterparts, as well as their students, to expedite the success of the Sarawak dual-language programme (DLP).
“While we have made significant progress, more effort is required to ensure DLP’s success. I urge teachers and students to support the programmes so as to strive in achieving its objectives,” he said.
Among those present were Education, Innovation and Talent Development Deputy Ministers Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee and Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, permanent secretary Adana Jed, and advisor in the Sarawak Premier’s Office (Education) Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong.
