Sanda exponents slug it out at Kuching’s MMA Sports Hub

KUCHING (May 23): Mad Fight (MMA) Club dominated the recent Sarawak Sanda Competition held at MMA Sports Hub, Boulevard Shopping Mall.

The team led by Sarawak State Sports Council coach Tsan Nieng Khai captured 10 gold and 10 silver medals in three categories.

In the Sukma category, Mad Fight’s gold medals were delivered by Sukma XXI long list athletes Hiu Bong Shen, Joaquin Chai Xin Zhe, and Matthew Hii Zhen Cheng. Amber Sim Jia Xuan and Muhammad Asyraf Khaldi took silvers in the Open category.

The Junior Open category saw Xavier Wee Hao Zhe and Leeroy Valentine Lavern bagging two golds each while Hansel Oliver Bong, Alvin Wong Xiu Xian, Max Choo Jun Howe, and Mavess Choo won one gold each.

Those also contributing silvers in this category were Kenji Tsan, Samuel Liu U Qian, Christiantio Theodore, Hansel Oliver Bong, Leeroy Valentine, and Hannah Adam.

Kelab Wushu Jelutong from Sarikei was the second best team with four golds and five silvers followed by Sibu’s Kelab Wushu Rajang (3-3-0) and D-30 Fight Team (1-1-0).

The tournament organised by Wushu Federation of Sarawak was aimed at further promoting sanda, as an exposure and to finalise the Sukma squad, and unearthing new talents. It lined up 11 bouts for sanda athletes in the Sukma long list and eight bouts for junior trainees aged 10 to 12.
