SAR launched for man swept away while searching for river snails

KUCHING (Oct 20): A search-and-rescue (SAR) operation was launched today for a 26-year-old man reported missing in the river at Kampung Terusan Jaya, Sematan.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement identified the missing man as Mohamad Nazratul Kamil.

“According to two witnesses, the victim was looking for snails when he was swept away by the current while attempting to swim across the river at around 2.10pm,” it said.

Following a report, Bomba dispatched a team to the location and began the SAR at 4.30pm, focusing along the riverbank.

“The local villagers are also assisting by searching the river using their boats,” it added.

The search was postponed at 6.35pm due to unfavourable weather, and will resume tomorrow.
