KUCHING (Sept 18): Sarawak’s swim team continued its dominance on the fourth day of the Majlis Sukan Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM) 2024 at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil, securing three gold, six silver, and one bronze medal.
This brings Sarawak’s total medal count to 22 gold, 13 silver, and 16 bronze, maintaining their top spot in the overall standings.
Kuala Lumpur follows closely with 20 gold, 11 silver, and 10 bronze, while Selangor is in third with 14 gold, 25 silver, and 13 bronze.
Sarawak’s Sheamus Chew once again set a new record in the boys’ 12-and-under 50m freestyle, clocking an impressive 26.36 seconds, breaking the previous record of 26.76 seconds set by Damien Seth Lim in 2023.
In the girl’s 18-and-under 200m breaststroke, Kueh Shir Le powered through to win gold, adding another medal to Sarawak’s tally.
The third gold came from the boys’ 15-and-under 4x100m medley relay team, consisting of Dylan Leong Yi Quan, Cayden Mineve Chin, Seau Zhi Ping, and Ryan Colby KuehPohYuen, who delivered a stunning performance to take first place.
Elisha Lee secured silver in the girls’ 12-and-under 50m freestyle, while Ryan Colby added another silver in the boys’ 15-and-under category for the same event. In the boys’ 18-and-under 50m freestyle, Sarawak’s Darren Leong took silver, and teammate Hector Ho claimed bronze.
With the MSSM 2024 swimming events concluding tomorrow (19th September), all eyes will be on the final races to see whether Sarawak can maintain their lead and emerge as the overall champions.
