KUCHING (Jan 29): The Sarawak government, through the Sarawak Islamic Education Bureau, has allocated RM1 million to fund the construction of a new male student hostel at the Institut Dakwah Islamiah Perkim (IDIP) in Kelantan.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the contribution is intended to provide better infrastructure and facilities for students at the institute.

“We already have good hostels for female students, and we want to develop a new, safe hostel for male students.

“For this purpose, we will rebuild the hostel under Perkim Kelantan, with the Sarawak Islamic Education Bureau contributing RM1 million,” he said, according to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report.

Abang Johari made the announcement during a press conference after the 29th IDIP certificate presentation ceremony at Dewan Kompleks Islam Jubli Perak, Sultan Ismail Petra, Panji in Kelantan.

The Premier, who is also the president of Muslim Welfare Organisation of Malaysia (Perkim), emphasised the role of education in community development, particularly in nurturing a knowledgeable generation with a universal Islamic approach.

“Dakwah work is voluntary, and the spirit of volunteerism is important in developing our society, especially Islam.

“This is universal, and our approach must also be universal. What matters is developing Islamic character so that the mindset is universal,” he said.

In addition to the RM1 million allocation for the hostel, Abang Johari also announced a separate contribution of RM20,000 to Perkim Kelantan.
