Tiang says the projects had previously been classified as ‘sick’ developments after experiencing delays of more than two years from their expected completion dates.
KUCHING (March 27): The State Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government has announced the successful completion of two long-delayed housing projects in Kuching and Betong divisions, providing relief to the affected homebuyers.
Deputy Minister Datuk Michael Tiang said the projects — Taman Fitriyyah in Kuching and Botanic Garden 2 in Betong — had previously been classified as ‘sick’ developments after experiencing delays of more than two years from their expected completion dates.
He said Taman Fitriyyah project, comprising 54 single- and double-storey terrace houses, received its Occupation Permit (OP) on March 18, 2026, following proactive facilitation by the ministry through inter-agency engagements, coordination meetings and joint site inspections.
The handing over of the OP was witnessed by Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU) representatives, ministry officers and house buyers on March 26.
As for Botanic Garden 2 in Betong, the project consists of 54 single-storey terrace houses across two phases, which had affected 12 purchasers due to delays.
Phase 1 was completed with the OP issued on Feb 5, 2026, after close monitoring and engagement by the ministry.
According to Tiang, the successful completion of the projects reflected the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between the ministry, developers, local authorities and technical agencies in resolving issues faced by delayed housing developments.
“Pertinent issues were successfully resolved through the commitment of all parties involved.
“The ministry also extends its gratitude to the affected house purchasers for their patience, understanding and continued cooperation throughout the process,” he said.
Tiang stressed that the Sarawak government remains committed to safeguarding the interests of the people by ensuring housing projects are completed and delivered in line with its development aspirations.
