KUCHING (March 12): The need to enhance facilities for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Lawas was among matters discussed during a courtesy call by Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah on Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at Wisma Sumber Alam here on Wednesday.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Mohamad Zainal said improving police facilities in the northern district could strengthen the capabilities of security forces in the area.
He added that the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss security matters in Sarawak, including local issues in Lawas such as drug problems, crime, and other matters requiring mutual attention.
“Among the topics discussed were the PDRM facilities in Lawas, which could be improved, and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah can assist given that the area falls under his supervision,” he told Ukas after the meeting.
Mohamad Zainal noted that the courtesy call is part of a series of official meetings he has been conducting with the state’s top leadership since assuming the post of Sarawak police commissioner on Sept 26, 2025, succeeding Dato Mancha Ata who retired.
“It is common practice for newly appointed officers to introduce themselves to the state leadership and strengthen working ties.
“Alhamdulillah, I have previously paid courtesy calls on the Governor of Sarawak, the Premier, as well as the other deputy premiers,” he added.
