KUCHING (March 30): Sarawakian dancer Dion Das Louis has qualified to represent Malaysia at the Dance World Cup World Finals 2026 in Dublin, Ireland this July after winning two silver medals at the Dance World Cup Malaysia Qualifier held over the weekend in Sabah.

Dion, who was the only contestant from Sarawak, competed in two categories, namely Mini Solo National Folklore and Senior Duo Folklore.

For his solo performance, Dion drew inspiration from the legend of ‘Bujang Berani’ and the enduring warrior spirit of ‘Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban’, presenting a powerful interpretation rooted in cultural heritage.

In the Senior Duo Folklore category, he collaborated with Sabahan dancer Mohamad Haykal in a performance titled ‘Kanjet Lian Sura’, which was inspired by an Orang Ulu myth.

Moving away from his previous winged costume concept, Dion adopted a new warrior-themed look this time around, which reflected strength and resilience in both choreography and presentation.

His choreography and costume were created by renowned Sabah-based choreographer Brandon Balasius.

The competition was judged by an international panel of adjudicators from Jersey.

With his achievement, Dion will now advance to the global stage, representing Malaysia once again at the Dance World Cup Finals.

Dion previously made headlines by finishing second at the Dance World Cup Finals in Burgos, Spain last year.
