SIBU (Nov 29): Deputy Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Fuzhou Municipal Committee, Guo Ningning, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian here on Friday, marking continued effort to deepen ties between China and Sarawak.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, culture, education, healthcare, and technology, with particular emphasis on strengthening government-to-government and people-to-people relations.
Dr Sim, who has long advocated for greater Sarawak-China connectivity, described the engagement as a continuation of decades-long ties between Malaysia and China, as well as between Fujian and Sarawak.
The courtesy call was at the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman’s office here.
Guo, representing the Fuzhou Municipal Government and the 8.5 million residents of Fujian’s capital city, expressed appreciation for Sarawak’s warm reception and continued support in fostering bilateral development.
While no formal announcements were made at this stage, both parties have expressed their commitment toward strengthening engagement and exploring follow-up frameworks for future cooperation.
Also present were State Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak Datuk Michael Tiang, Minqing County Mayor Chen Yu and Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting.
