KUCHING, April 16: Sarawak is gaining stronger recognition on the international stage, emerging as a model for other regions on the back of its political stability and clear, consistent development policies.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the Sarawak’s standing is rising not only nationally but also globally, drawing growing interest from regions such as the European Union and the United States.
“Many are now coming to Sarawak. We have seen ambassadors from the European Union visiting the State, as well as representatives from the United States.
“Our Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has also been invited to share his views on the new economy, particularly in hydrogen production.
“We must seize this opportunity. We are confident Sarawak can continue to move forward and further strengthen its development,” he said when speaking at the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) 2026 Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri event here on Wednesday (April 15).
Awang Tengah added that Sarawak has established a robust legal framework to ensure all investments, whether foreign direct investment (FDI) or domestic direct investment (DDI), are secure and well protected, thereby strengthening investor confidence.
In this regard, he called on all MINTRED staff and its agencies to work cohesively as a team while adopting more creative and innovative approaches in their roles.
“By doing so, we can implement the right strategies in carrying out our duties and responsibilities. We must also ensure Sarawak remains a leading destination for investment,” he said.
Also present were Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, MINTRED Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, MINTRED advisor Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, MINTRED permanent secretary Datu Lester Matthew, and permanent secretary to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Sarawak Datu Abdullah Julaihi. — DayakDaily
