KUCHING (Feb 11): The Sarawak government will host its annual state-level Chinese New Year open house at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Feb 17 from 10am to 2pm.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said members of the public are invited to join the celebration, which will be graced by Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
“This marks the third year we are organising the Sarawak-level Chinese New Year celebration, which is in line with our Premier’s vision under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 to always be inclusive.
“The celebration serves as an important platform to foster unity, mutual respect, and understanding among the diverse communities in Sarawak. It reflects the spirit of inclusivity and harmony that has long been the foundation of our state’s strength and stability,” he told a press conference here.
He said the presence of Wan Junaidi and other distinguished guests symbolises the unity of leadership and collective commitment towards preserving peace and harmony in our multi-ethnic and multireligious society.
“Everyone is warmly invited to attend the celebration, to interact and strengthen ties across communities while enjoying the festive hospitality prepared for the occasion.
“The open celebration embodies the values of sharing, togetherness, and mutual appreciation that define Sarawak’s unique social fabric,” he said.
Dr Sim said the state-level celebration, under organising chairman Deputy State Secretary (Operation) Datu Hii Chang Kee, underscores the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to strengthening social cohesion, enhancing inter-ethnic harmony, and ensuring sustained stability.
“These elements remain critical pillars in driving Sarawak’s development agenda and long-term prosperity.
“The government will continue to uphold and promote such inclusive celebrations as part of our broader efforts to build a progressive, united, and resilient Sarawak,” he said.
Among those present at the press conference were Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin and Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting.
