KUCHING, May 31: Families from four houses affected by a recent fire at RPR Batu Kawa have been temporarily relocated to flats at Taman Dahlia under an assistance arrangement coordinated by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
According to a press release, the swift relocation follows immediate intervention by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian who rushed to the scene after the incident to assess damage, meet affected families and coordinate emergency support.
Dr Sim, who is also the Batu Kawa assemblyman, extended on-the-spot financial assistance and quickly engaged HDC to ensure affected residents were not left without shelter while recovery and repair works are carried out.
As the fire caused varying levels of damage to the houses, the families will require time to clean up and undertake restoration works before being able to return home safely.
In the interim, HDC has activated a temporary relocation plan, placing the victims at Taman Dahlia flats to ensure continued access to basic accommodation and stability.
Under the arrangement, HDC will cover the RM970 deposit for each unit, while affected families are only required to pay their own water and electricity charges throughout their stay.
HDC officers, together with Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Kho Teck Wan, later visited the affected site to brief residents on the relocation process, meet the victims, and facilitate the signing of acceptance and consent documents. — DayakDaily
