KAPIT, June 27: The Sarawak government has approved a designated site in Kapit for the development of a special housing project for veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces, in recognition of their service and sacrifices in defending the nation.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the approved site will be developed into a dedicated settlement for military veterans, creating a meaningful and purpose-built community for those who have served.
“We have approved a site for Malaysian Armed Forces veterans who have served as former soldiers.
“They had actually given land, and that land is in an area that will be developed into housing for the veteran community. It can also become a special new settlement for them,” he was quoted as saying by TVS after conducting a site visit and receiving a briefing from Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) at the former Kapit Airport site today.
Abang Johari added that the proposed development will be further refined by the State Planning Authority before implementation, ensuring the project aligns with local development needs and planning requirements.
“This matter will be brought to the SPA. With my visit here, I now have a clearer picture of what needs to be done, and we will approve the proposals submitted from Kapit,” he added.
He also noted that the initiative has the potential to establish a new, dedicated community for veterans, further strengthening social recognition of their contributions to the country. — DayakDaily
