SIBU (Nov 28): The Royal Malaysian Navy Veterans Association Sarawak Branch (PVTLDMCNS) has strengthened its ties with fellow veterans in Peninsular Malaysia after participating in two Warrior’s Day remembrance ceremonies held in Kuala Lumpur and Penang respectively.

Its president, Warrant Officer 1 (Rtd) Unyok Dasi, said the ceremony in Kuala Lumpur was organised by the Malaysian Army Chinese Veterans Association, while the most recent event by the Penang Veterans Association.

“The organisers were very excited by our presence in enlivening the event despite the long distance, and they hope we will be able to accept their invitations again in the coming years,” he said in a statement.

Unyok said their attendance at both ceremonies not only promoted PVTLDMCNS and strengthened camaraderie with veterans in Peninsular Malaysia, but also served as a form of recognition for the association, its members and Sarawak veterans as a whole.

PVTLDMCNS currently has more than 200 members statewide.

He added that the Penang ceremony, held at the Padang Kota Waterfront, gathered more than 500 veterans from across the country and abroad, including Australia, Great Britain, Canada, Nepal, New Zealand and Thailand.

“The guest of honour was Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, with Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid also present.

“In the same evening, we attended a dinner event at the Penang Sports Club,” he added.

Meanwhile, Unyok said the association is planning several activities next year, including outreach efforts to members and further strengthening ties among veterans throughout Sarawak.
