MIRI, Sept 13: A Bumiputera Sarawak company engaged in the oil and gas industry will be listed on Bursa Malaysia, thus reflecting the potential for greater involvement of local companies in the corporate sector.
Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that the development was part of efforts to strengthen Bumiputera's economic development agenda through increased involvement of local companies in high-impact sectors.
"This Monday there is a company involved in oil and gas, our company Bumiputera from Miri, will be listed on the Malaysian Stock Exchange.
"This is our agenda, the agenda to develop Bumiputera's economy and this is the basis of our struggle to develop entrepreneurs and traders among Bumiputera companies", he said.
He said this while addressing the inauguration of the special convention of United Party United Party Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB) Sarawak North Zone at the Miri Closed Stadium, here today.
He said that Bumiputera's involvement in the small and medium enterprise sector as well as strategic industries should be continuously enhanced to open more economic opportunities for local communities.
"We want to further increase our community involvement in the field of SMEs.
"If we want to cooperate, we work together properly and we want to increase our community involvement in this area", he added.
He clarified that efforts to strengthen Bumiputera's participation in the economy are part of Sarawak's development agenda which must be continued to ensure the benefits of economic growth can be felt by local communities. - TVS
