MIRI, Sept. 13: Sarawak's economic development goals have attracted the attention of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) following the partnership of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at a meeting in Manila, Philippines, last week.

Brother Johari said he was invited to share Sarawak's vision and experience in economic development, poverty alleviation and planning the state's future direction.

According to him, the partnership also received positive feedback from ADB interested in knowing Sarawak's approach to economic development.

"They asked, 'Can you share with us the future of Sarawak? They are very excited about Sarawak's vision.

"I share what we have and the economic direction of Sarawak and how we want to eradicate poverty", he said.

He said this while addressing the Inauguration Meeting of the United Party Special Convention (UPC) Sarawak North Zone at closed Miri Stadium, here today.

He added that education has become one of the key approaches to tackling poverty as improving the quality of education can open up more opportunities for future generations.

Sarawak, meanwhile, is now focusing on the energy, technology, education and digital economy sectors as among the new growth drivers of the state.

He said Sarawak should continue to harness the power of indigenous resources and local expertise to ensure sustainable economic development in the long run. - TVS
