KUCHING, Nov 16: The hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) along Kota Samarahan road will utilise Transit Signal Priority technology to enable it to move continuously, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
According to Uggah, the technology is the first to be deployed in the Southeast Asian region.
“The special Transit Signal Priority will synchronise all the traffic lights along the way to be ready to turn green when the ART approaches,” he told reporters during his visit to the first semi-completed roundabout near Industrial Training Centre (ILP) in Kota Samarahan today.
On the same note, Uggah also congratulated the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak for completing the roundabout construction ahead of its schedule.
“The 2.6km road project is ready for the ART proof-of-concept (POC) run by the end of November,” he added.
The development of the Kuching Urban Transportation Systems (KUTS) Phase 1 project packages costs RM51,804,113.65, which involved the construction and completion of infrastructure works for Package 1A (Blue Line) from Roundabout 1 (RB1) to Roundabout 3 (RB3). — DayakDaily
