SIBU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) with more than 80,000 members will be joining Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) before Chinese New Year which falls on Feb 10.
“I was informed by PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh that we have received the green light to join from the PDP leadership,” said PSB deputy president Dr Johnical Rayong at the sideline of PDP Christmas Dinner on Sunday (Dec 24).
He added that they would be meeting the Registrar of Societies (RoS) soon to ensure that they do not breach the anti-party hopping law.
“Next, we will hold an extra general meeting (EGM) to dissolve PSB (before joining PDP). PDP will also conduct an EGM to officially accept PSB,” he said.
Earlier, PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing in his speech urged PDP members to be ready to accept PSB members joining the party.
“We will continue to fight together. As political leaders, of course, we make mistakes here and there, but we must know when to stop fighting with each other and work together for the sake of the people.
If people condemn us (due to PSB joining us), we ignore (them). What is important for us is to develop Sarawak. Sarawak first!” he said.
Both parties had signed an MOU for collaboration in Kuala Lumpur on July 13 this year.
Both sides had agreed that Tiong would be the president of the new entity after PSB members have crossed over.
