Sarawak’s shuttler Goh advances, Chua and Tan fall in Sukma XXI singles

SIBU (Aug 21): Sarawak’s badminton men’s singles player Goh Shun Huat advanced to the second round at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI) after defeating Yeow Chun Cher from Melaka at the Sibu Indoor Stadium here today.

Goh won the first set by a 7-point margin, with a final score of 21-14.  He then won the second set with the final score of 21-14.

Goh will face Muhammad Nur Azhar Zunaide from Sabah in the next round.

Another Sarawak men’s singles player Alwyn Chua Kai Xu lost to Perlis’ Chow Wern Soon in the first round of the game.

Chua won the first set with the score of 21-12, but Chow bounced back at the second set with the score of 21–14, forcing a rubber game.

Chow proceeded to win the rubber set with the score of 21–15.

In the women’s singles, Penang’s Oo Shan Zi advanced to the second round after defeating Sarawak’s Megan Tan Zhi Yi in a straight set with the scores of 21–9 and 21–4.
