KUCHING, Aug 20: Sarawak’s pencak silat team has secured three gold medals in the men’s team compulsory ‘Regu Putra,’ women’s ‘Regu Putri,’ and individual ‘Kreatif Putra’ categories, along with a bronze in the individual ‘Baku (Tunggal) Putri’ category at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) today.
According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Sarawak’s first gold was earned in the compulsory ‘Regu Putra’ event by athletes Ahmad Danial Abdullah, Mohammad Nur Azlisham Mohd Ali, and Suhaiqal Suhardie, who outperformed the Selangor team.
The second gold came in the women’s ‘Regu Putri’ event, where athletes Nuradriani Fitri Abdullah, Nur Alfianiz Jordon, and Vivina Anging Johnton claimed victory over the Johor team.
In the individual ‘Kreatif Putra’ category, Mohammad Shamiezal Shapian clinched another gold for Sarawak, defeating Federal Territory’s Muhammad Faris Zakwan Mohd Ridzuan with his skillful performance.
Sarawak Silat Head Coach Fadzil Jamain expressed pride in the team’s achievements, noting that 99 percent of the athletes competing in this Sukma are newcomers.
“This time, the 34 athletes have delivered positive results so far,” he said when met by the media at Miri Indoor Stadium today.
Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneurship of Sarawak and Lambir State Assembly Member, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, also praised the athletes’ performances.
“I am impressed and delighted with the performance shown by these silat athletes this morning,” he stated.
Competitions in categories such as classes A, B, D, E, F, I, J, and G, the Under-45 kilograms, and the Open Boys and Girls categories are still ongoing at the Miri City Stadium. — DayakDaily
