KUCHING: The Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions celebrated the successful completion of its inaugural “Introduction to Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Service and Maintenance” course at the Automotive and Welding Institute of Sarawak (AWISAR).

The two-day programme saw 15 participants, including automotive workshop owners, engineers, and technicians, gaining valuable insights into the workings of hybrid and electric vehicles.

Sarawak Skills executive director Hallman Sabri expressed gratitude to the participants, emphasising the course’s importance in equipping professionals with industry-relevant skills.

“The programme covered a comprehensive overview of hybrid and electric vehicles, focusing on working principles, technologies, and safety procedures,” he said during the closing ceremony of the course.

Practical sessions provided hands-on experience, enriching the knowledge and skills of engineers, supervisors, and technicians.

He revealed Sarawak Skills’ plans to establish a Certified Training Centre for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Electric Vehicles (EVs), and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles in Sarawak.

“Aligning with the Sarawak Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030, this initiative aims to support the transformation of Sarawak’s key economic sectors,” he added.

Highlighting international collaboration, Hallman shared details of a visit to China by Sarawak Skills and i-CATS University College. This visit paved the way for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Hydrogen Supply Chain Technologies in 2024.

Instructors and lecturers from Sarawak Skills and i-CATS UC will collaborate with Chinese partners, contributing to the development of hydrogen-related training programs and research.

“Due to high demand, a second batch of training is scheduled for January 2024, accommodating requests from automotive centres and workshops.

“This expansion aligns with Sarawak Skills’ commitment to sharing knowledge beyond industry professionals, inviting members of the public interested in hybrid and electric vehicle service and maintenance,” he said.
