Abang Johari speaks to reporters after attending the Anglican Christmas Open House event held at St Thomas’ Cathedral Parish Hall in Kuching on Dec 25, 2023.

KUCHING, Dec 25: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has informed Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the State’s intention to invest in renewable energy sources.

This was among the matters discussed during his recent four-eye meeting with Anwar in Putrajaya.

He said Sarawak is blessed with renewable energy sources, namely hydropower generated from cascading dams and solar power from photovoltaic (PV) technology.

The State, he said, also has the potential to adopt power-to-gas-to-power (P2G2P) technology to split and produce gas (hydrogen and oxygen) and later store the hydrogen gas in a power station.

Meanwhile, the fourth energy source is wood pellets where the State could replant trees in degraded forests that will become feedstock to produce wood pellet biomass and turn it into energy, he said.

“Therefore, I have discussed with the Prime Minister (that) what we have to do now is to invest in these resources and then we can become the hub of ASEAN.

“This is because we will have excess power. We are supplying to Singapore now and we had invested in Kalimantan Barat (Indonesia). The next one will be in Peninsular Malaysia,” he told reporters after attending a Christmas open house here today. — DayakDaily
