SIBU: Sarawakians have been told to stay vigilant as the number of Covid-19 cases increases in West Malaysia.

"In Sarawak, we hope the number of Covid-19 cases won’t suddenly spike like it is in the peninsula,” said Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee at a pre-Christmas dinner on Friday (Dec 15) night.

The state Deputy Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Minister said if an outbreak occurs, the state might be able to contain it due to previous experience.

"So, we don't need to wait for what should be done because we are familiar with preventative measures, using face masks, avoiding crowded places, and so on," he said

Dr Annuar urged the public to remain vigilant, especially during this festive season.

"During Gawai, we celebrate together, and the same goes for Hari Raya, Christmas and Chinese New Year. That's why we must prioritise tolerance and mutual respect," he said.

Also present were Temenggung Stanley Gramong, Longhouse Chief Eddy Jemat, Pemanca Paing Tawi, Councillor Raden Khairulzaman Raden Bustari and others.
