KUCHING (March 28): The Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) yesterday launched its GoBald 2026 campaign, marking not only a fundraising initiative but also the organisation’s 25th anniversary, under the theme ‘Growing Hope Together’.
SCCS president Mary Kiu Ai Ling said the initiative reflected a shared commitment to supporting children with cancer and their families, describing it as ‘a symbol of collective compassion and solidarity’.
“Hope is not something we give alone – it is something we share,
“It grows when one hand reaches out to another, when one act of kindness inspires many more,” she said at the launch held at the SCCS Halfway Home here.
According to her, the campaign carries profound meaning, with each head-shave gesture representing support for children battling cancer.
“Every shaved head is a powerful act of compassion. It tells a child with cancer that they are not alone – that a community stands with them,” she added.
At the launch, several participants took part in a symbolic head shave, including Loriamah Berawi, 47, and her daughter Putri Ardelia Lau Mohamad Emran Lau, 10, who is a young cancer patient.
Kiu said SCCS had supported around 1,800 families across Sarawak over the past 25 years, with funds from GoBald helping to expand both medical and emotional support services for patients and caregivers.
Since its inception in 2009, GoBald has raised over RM14 million and inspired more than 11,000 participants to shave their heads in solidarity with cancer patients.
This year to date, SCCS has channelled more than RM238,000 towards specialised drugs and procedures for five children.
GoBald 2026 aims to raise RM1 million and attract 300 participants for its head-shaving initiative.
Public events will be held this June 21 at the Miri Handicraft Centre, and from July 4 at The Hills, Kuching, as part of a three-day wellness programme in conjunction with SCCS’ 25th anniversary.
Registration is open via www.gobald.my, while corporate social responsibility partnerships or satellite shave events can be arranged via SCCS by calling 082-686276 or via [email protected].
