SEA Games 2027: Final list of sporting events to be finalised by the end of this month

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 Oct: The final list of sporting events to be contested at the 2027 SEA Games in the country is expected to be finalized by the end of this month.

Chief Executive Officer of the Secretariat of Organizers of SEA Sports Malaysia (MASOC) and ASEAN Para Games 2027 Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub said a total of 492 events from 43 sports are planned to be contested at the biennial event, but that number has not yet been fully finalized.

Abdul Rashid said his party is now actively preparing technical guides for each type of sport to be contested at the 34th edition of the Games.

"When we finish (the technical guidebook) in these two or three weeks, we will finalize the number of events competing for each type of sport.

"God willing, we can expect it by the end of this month or early November", he said in a recent interview with Bernama.

Abdul Rashid said the estimated total athlete participation in the SEA Games 2027 will be between 7,000 and 8,000 people based on 43 previously approved sports.

However, the former Director-General of the National Sports Council said that a more precise number of participants can only be identified after participating countries submit their athlete registration through the system provided.

Regarding accommodation, he said the athletes and contingent officers involved would be housed in three-star hotels and above, without using the concept of a sports village.

"We give priority to hotels near the venue of the competition as this will facilitate preparation for their transport", he said.

SEA Games 2027 involving four major clusters including Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang and Johor is scheduled to take place from September 18 to 29 next year. -TVS
