KUCHING (Feb 23): Two construction site security guards were each sentenced to six months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty at the Magistrates’ Court here on Monday to attempting to steal iron rods from their workplace.
Nurul Hafizi Yunus, 36 and Qhal Zamaril Zailani, 22, were charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code read together with Sections 34 and 511 of the same Code.
They committed the offence at a construction site along Jalan Sungai Tapang here at about 6pm on Feb 17, 2026.
Based on the facts of the case, a construction company worker heard the sound of a metal-cutting machine and discovered both accused cutting iron rods on a building apron under construction.
The two guards had been entrusted with safeguarding the assets at the site but were not at their designated posts at the material time.
Suspecting the pair was attempting to take the cut iron rods, the worker detained them and contacted the police for further action.
The incident resulted in an estimated loss of RM10,000.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly prosecuted the case before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali, while the two accused were unrepresented.
