KUCHING, June 14: Parti Sedar Rakyat (SEDAR) has urged the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to address a potential overlap in party names following reports that former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin intends to establish a new political party known as Parti Wawasan Negara.
In a statement today, SEDAR president Affendi Jeman said the party had already approved amendments to change its name from Parti Sedar Rakyat to Parti Wawasan Rakyat during its 2025 Annual General Congress held at Merdeka Palace Hotel here on Feb 15.
He said the proposed name change was unanimously endorsed by party delegates during the congress.
Affendi further disclosed that SEDAR had submitted an application to the ROS headquarters in Putrajaya on April 8 this year to formalise the amendments, including the party’s proposed new name.
“Subsequently, our party, SEDAR, submitted an application to the Registrar of Societies Malaysia headquarters in Putrajaya on April 8, 2026, for all the approved amendments,” he said.
In light of Hamzah’s reported plan to form Parti Wawasan Negara, Affendi expressed hope that the ROS would properly handle the issue of similarities between political party names.
“Our party hopes that the Registrar of Societies Malaysia will address this matter of overlapping names,” he said.
Hamzah, who recently parted ways with Bersatu following an internal split, has indicated his intention to establish Parti Wawasan Negara in the near future. — DayakDaily
