KUCHING, Apr 9: The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) is broadening its operations into new energy, tourism, digital, and green economy sectors, moving beyond its traditional focus on industrial, housing, and property development.

Its chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Dato Husain said the shift reflects SEDC’s repositioning since its establishment in 1972, with greater emphasis now placed on higher value and emerging sectors.

“SEDC remains committed to supporting Sarawak’s long-term growth as we adapt to emerging economic opportunities at both domestic and international levels,” he said at the SEDC Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house held here on Wednesday (Apr 8).

He added that the corporation’s current priorities include workforce development, job creation and entrepreneurship, supported by corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes designed to deliver tangible benefits to communities across Sarawak.

“Our success is not defined by financial performance or assets alone, but by the real impact we bring to the people of Sarawak,” he said, noting that these initiatives align with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 which emphasises economic growth, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability.

Abdul Aziz also highlighted that collaboration with government agencies, strategic partners and the private sector has been key to enabling SEDC to implement its development programmes effectively.

Also present were Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
