SIBU: Selangau MP Edwin Banta has pledged support for the upgrade of the school hall at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) St Matthew Sekuau (M).
“I will write a letter to the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) regarding this matter, seeking their assistance as the school is a missionary school,” he said in his speech at the school alumni dinner held at a renowned hotel last night (Jan 20).
The alumni dinner aimed to raise funds for the hall upgrade, coinciding with the establishment of the SK Saint Matthew Sekuau (M) Alumni.
Edwin emphasised that the formation of the alumni group signifies unity and camaraderie among the school’s former students.
“This alumni initiative reflects efforts to enhance the school’s excellence, particularly in education. It also serves to strengthen ties between the school, PIBG, and the local community, especially former students,” he said.
Believing that the alumni association’s functions can be optimised through collaboration with private companies, Edwin stressed its potential to foster positive relationships for the school’s progress.
“The strong bond between the alumni and SK Saint Matthew can support fundraising and contribute to school infrastructure improvements.
“Alumni are valuable assets to the school, and they should always remember the contributions of educators, even as they explore opportunities far and wide,” he affirmed.
Edwin also commended Borneo MA Smart Vendors for sponsoring various activities in the school during the 2023 academic session.
Additionally, he announced an allocation of RM25,000 from his MRP grant for the school’s PIBG during the programme.
Also present were Borneo MA Smart Vendors Sdn Bhd Chairman Alexander Dato, school headmistress Ellyne Tong Siew Hua and others.
