MUKAH, 1 Oct: A man handed himself a straw tube containing crystal splashes allegedly to the police while being questioned in a crackdown on drug abuse on Wawasan Street, here, at noon yesterday.

In the incident at about 12:30 that afternoon, a 25-year-old suspect driving a white Proton Saga was arrested by a team of members of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Regional Police Headquarters (IPD).

The Chief of Police of Ouakh District, Deputy Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rizal Alias said that the investigation of the suspects led to the discovery of a tube of beam straw lump containing crystalline spatter believed to be methamphetamine or sulfur.

"Any suspected drug was handed over by the suspect himself to a police officer during an investigation", he said in a statement today.

Cases are investigated under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs and Section 15 (1) (a) of the same act for misuse of drugs.

He said the drug had an estimated gross weight of 0.48 grams before the suspect along with the loot was taken to IPD Mukah for further investigation.

He said the initial urine filters found the men tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

"The suspect who worked as a laborer is now being detained for three days until October 4 to allow the investigation to be completed", he said.
