Serian District Council chairman praises Serian’s warmth during CNY, Hari Raya celebrations

KUCHING, March 29: Serian District Council chairman Dato Peter Minos expressed his delight at the Chinese New Year (CNY) and Hari Raya celebrations in Serian this year, praising the warmth and hospitality of the local communities.

Speaking of his experiences in Serian, Minos said he was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the Chinese community.

He recounted receiving nearly a month’s worth of invitations from Temenggongs, Pemancas, Penghulus, and Kapitans, all competing to host him for CNY festivities.

“The food and drink were plentiful, and there were tons of oranges — very much appreciated.

“It was truly a warm and friendly people, far beyond my contemplation,” he said in a statement today.

He also praised the Malay community during Hari Raya celebrations for their welcoming nature.

“They make sure that you feel at home at their invitations. The satay and lemang were truly delicious,” he added.

Beyond the feasting and festivities, Minos highlighted the personal significance of the season: reconnecting with old friends and political veterans, some of whom he had not seen in 30 years.

“At 77, meeting old friends is truly special. I cannot fully describe the feeling. Only to say it is truly great. Even beautiful,” he said.

Looking ahead, Minos expressed excitement for the upcoming Gawai Dayak, anticipating visits to long-time friends in the villages. – DayakDaily
