KUCHING (Sept 19): The Serian Industrial Training Institute (ILP) has been completed and is expected to be operational in January next year, said Human Resources Minister, Steven Sim Chee Keong.

He said the country’s 33rd ILP, with the capacity to accommodate 600 students, is expected to conduct its first semester intake in January 2025.

“This is good news for Sarawak as it will have an additional TVET or vocational education institution that will train highly skilled workers in the state,” said Sim.

He was speaking to reporters after a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

ILP is a training institute under the Department of Human Resources, aimed at producing skilled workers to meet the demands of the industrial sector in Malaysia.

Sim said that aside from discussing matters related to his ministry, the purpose of the courtesy call was to invite Abang Johari to attend the cheque presentation ceremony to Centexs this Oct 5.

He said this is a collaboration between the Human Resource Ministry and the Sarawak government to enhance skills training education in the state and country.
