KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has backed a proposal to retain outgoing Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili on the company’s Board of Directors.

SEB chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said he would formally propose Sharbini’s appointment at the SEB Board meeting this month, following his retirement on Oct 31.

“I have reconfirmed with the Sarawak Premier the proposal to appoint Datuk Sharbini as a member of the SEB Board of directors, and he has expressed his support and agreement.

“Therefore, at the upcoming SEB Board meeting this October, I will propose Datuk Sharbini’s appointment as a Board Member,” he said.

Ibrahim, who is also Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS), said this during an appreciation dinner for Sharbini here on Wednesday, attended by Abang Johari.

He said Sharbini’s more than a decade of leadership at SEB had delivered significant contributions beyond financial performance, major projects and accolades, including in leadership, human capital development and organisational culture.

Ibrahim said Sharbini had also placed strong emphasis on the welfare and safety of SEB employees, consistently viewing the workforce as the organisation’s most important asset.

Under Sharbini’s leadership, he said SEB had grown significantly while supporting the implementation of Sarawak’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 through the expansion of renewable energy capacity, regional energy connectivity and industrial development.

He said Sharbini also introduced the Sarawak Energy Excellence Roadmap in 2017 to drive the organisation’s transformation across operations, project delivery, talent development and organisational capability.

“Since then, this roadmap has evolved through several phases from sustaining value and driving continuous improvement to becoming a top-tier operator, ultimately realising the aspiration to become a renewable energy powerhouse,” he said.

Ibrahim said the transformation had also translated into stronger financial performance, with SEB’s annual revenue projected to reach about RM8 billion by 2025, nearly double the figure recorded when the transformation began.
